A warm welcome to our first mindful photography challenge!
This week, I invite you to create and share one or more photos inspired by this week's theme, "Textures of Nature", as a link in the comments on this post, or in Substack Notes.
Immerse yourself in the natural world and capture its intricate details and patterns, often unnoticed at a casual glance. This exploration can lead to photographing the rough, peel’s rough, peeling bark, revealing stories of survival and growth, or a leaf's delicate, veined structure, showcasing nature's intricate design.
You might find yourself zooming in on the ripple of sand on the beach, formed by the wind or water into endless, mesmerising patterns, or the sparkling frost on a winter morning, each crystal a tiny masterpiece. Water, too, offers endless inspiration, from the smooth, polished surface of river stones shaped by its flow to the dynamic textures created by ripples and waves.
This prompt encourages us to slow down, observe closely, and connect deeply with our environment. It transforms our perception of the natural world into a canvas of textures that speak of the earth's beauty and complexity.
Your photos will be shared in next week’s challenge!
New here? Welcome!
What is Mindful Photography?
Mindful photography is the art of capturing the present moment without preferences or expectations. Instead of chasing perfect light or specific subjects, it's about embracing what's in front of you.
Unlike traditional photography, which often focuses on ideal conditions, mindful photography encourages accepting the present as it is. It's not about the final image or impressing others but about being fully present in taking photos.
Remember: mindful photography is all about the process, not the outcome. Find out more about how it’s done here:
